All about Darker

Darker is a duo from Tilburg (aka Kill!-Burn!), The Netherlands. This 'band' started in 2009 as a creative outlet for the post-teenage angst and frustrations of life of Donnie Darker and Evil-ien. Originally intended to be a one-man band, the both decided to forgo the logistical nightmare of having one guy carrying all the equipment and end up being alone in that dressingroom with too much food and drinks. And Darker likes to give alot. Especially on stage! As a consequence, Darker are 1 keyboard, 1 load of FX pedals, and 2 mics. They call it crunk rock, while others named it emo-rap, singer/songsampler, noisepop, crunkcore. Darker don't care what you call it, as long as it's not minimal. Coz Darker are maximal - a two piece band trying to sound like a five piece band. Maximal fun, maximal Rock n Roll, maximal beats and boost. Supporting Darker gets you into Heaven. Really! - no questions asked. KISS OFF and dance like a robot!!!

Welkom in de uitdagende wereld van Darker. Met Donnie D. En Evil-ien als bandleden. In hun homestudio worden de pompende bassen en scheurende synths over raps en melodieuze zanglijnen gelegd. Er wordt gebeatboxt, gedrumd en gesampled. Ook live doen zij alles samen. En met behulp van effectpedalen en vindingrijkheid zet het duo een live show neer waarbij je niet anders kan dan meedoen. Voor Donnie een reis die ooit begon bij rapmetal band Brotherhood Foundation (waarmee hij heel even in de album charts kwam en live op o.a. Pinkpop en Lowlands stond). “Ach fuck die shit,” zegt hij daar over, “dat was toen en Darker is nu!” De reis gaat verder...

Darker is te omschrijven als een mix tussen rock, electronica, folk, hiphop en beats. Noem het Crunkcore, noem het emotronic, noem het Singer/songsampler. Vergelijkingen met 3OH!3, NIN, BrokenCyde, The Opposites, M.I.A., Beck en Millionaires zijn reeds gemaakt. Maar trek je eigen conclusie: check it out and bounce baby bounce!

Darker probeert een ander pad te bewandelen door maffe filmpjes (DDTV), kunst en muziek te maken. Eind 2009 kwam de EP \'Darker is the new Black\' uit en sindsdien is hun mix van emo-tronic, crunkcore en hiphop al een boel mensen opgevallen.\r\n\r\nVergelijkingen met 3OH!3, Brokencyde, House of Pain, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig werden snel gemaakt door fans en journalisten.\r\n\r\n\"Het maakt ons niet uit hoe onze sound noemt,\" vertelt Donnie D., \"zolang wij er maar een feestje mee kunnen maken!\"\r\n\r\nEn dat daar wat hokjes voor omver getrapt moeten worden, hoort er een beetje bij.\r\n\r\nHou Darker in de gaten!
